D-1, D-2, D-3 & D-5 Tapes To DVD OR Hard Drive

The D-1 tape was released by SONY in 1986 followed by the D-2 in 1988, D-3 in 1991 and the D-5 HD in 1994. The D-1 and D-2 tapes were developed for use within the professional video market. Both D-1 and D-2 were uncompressed formats. D-1 is still known for having some of the most stunning standard definition quality on tape. D-2 tapes were made as a less expensive alternative to D-1. D-3 tapes were Panasonic's response to the D-2 by Ampex. The D5 HD tape holds SD and HD resolution video and is still used in some professional applications.
